There have been just a view photographers, to be approved by Marilyn Monroe. Sam Shaw was one of them. And globally there is only a single artist to be officially and exclusively allowed to use those pictures artistically: Joerg Doering.

The same holds true for pictures of other celebrities, by Larry Shaw. Father and son have created a piece of contemporary history, with their family archive, from which the artist Joerg Doering takes his ideas for his pop-art-arrangements. Famous examples would be Marilyn Monroe "Phenomenon" / Marlon Brando "The Brand" / Sean Connery "Intelligence" / Steve Mc Queen "No Limit" / Ursula Andres "The Ultimate" / Brigitte Bardot "Dangereuse Liaison".

We experience silk-screen printing in its perfection, while observing his compositions, prior to which and also subsequently oil colour is applied generously, the work being topped off with varnish and oils. Steve Mc Queen, idol of whole generations, can be frequently found within the Oeuvre, always in a rather ‘cool’ manner, wearing a firestone overall, smoking a cigarette, being titled “Speed”, it also uses as a synonym for today’s fast-moving nature. A ‘sexy’ Ursula Andres can be encountered by the viewer, as an eternal beauty, only robed by a scarce bikini, rising from the sea. “The Ultimate” is as much title as scheme … more would not be possible.
